Don't blink or you'll miss it; the Peruvian Apple Cactus' cream-colored flowers with red tips open for one night only, which is why you may know it by another of its common names: Queen of the Night. Watch for the blooms in late spring and early fall. This cactus creates a strong focal point in your landscape with its columnar growth habit, impressive height potential, eye-catching blooms, and colorful fruit. The fruit, known as Peruvian Apple or Pitaya, is generally red but sometimes yellow and grows to about 2 inches in diameter. Keep this cactus happy with lots of sun and light watering in soil that allows it to dry out between waterings.
